Radiopoppers in the UK in August?
Radiopopper transmitter and receivers are currently only available in the United States and Canada. Many European photographers may have been tempted to ship them from the US by whatever means. One of the main issues which have delayed Radiopoppers shipments to the UK has been the overlap in the radio frequencies used by these transmitters and GSM mobile phones. According to Radiopoppers themselves, anyone using these in Europe can expect shortened range, misfires and other odd behavior due to the constant background interference from the phones. They have also indicated that they are targeting a late August 2009 release for the EU region. Hopefully we'll get an update at their blog soon regarding their Radiopopper caddies for attaching the transmitters to your strobe without the use of gaffer tape! With the recent coverage over the performance of PocketWizard Flex TT5 Mini TT1 (check out Tricoast Photo's test against the Radiopoppers) the Radiopoppers look like they'll make it as the photographers' preferred TTL remote flash transmitter system.
[ UPDATE: 28th August 2009 - According to the people at Radiopopper they are readying EU & Australian compliant units for release by end of September now... will they actually deliver? Will PocketWizard have sorted out themselves for EU Nikon miniTTL units by then? Hmmm...]
[UPDATE: 5th May 2010 - Radiopopper's "latest" update: We are expecting to release our EU & Australian specific units by the end of this year, however it is likely that it will be much sooner. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience while we work to get our international units ready. We will post on our website/blog as soon as we have a definite date. ]
[UPDATE: 24th July 2010 - Radiopopper's "latest" update: Today Leap Devices announced that their PX units have been CE certified and will be available for order from 26th July!]
